When the opportunity to help Arkansas Tech University build a relationship with a new overseas partner university presented itself, ATU faculty member Cass Capen-Housley was in with both feet.

Capen-Housley will be a visiting lecturer at Landshut University of Applied Sciences in Landshut, Germany, during its summer semester from mid-March through mid-July.

“Anytime we can have outreach as a university and make a connection with another university that allows us to meet new people, that’s what I love about this job,” said Capen-Housley, instructor of management in the ATU LeMoyne Smith School of Business. “It will be interesting to see a new place. I’ve never traveled to Europe, so I’m excited about that and about experiencing their culture.”

Capen-Housley will teach Principles of International Management through a hybrid model. The majority of the course will be taught online, but Capen-Housley will travel to Germany to work with the German students in person for two weeks.

“I’m really fortunate to continue doing what I love,” said Capen-Housley. “Don’t be afraid. When people nominate you or recommend you…take it. Jump. Go for it. And don’t be afraid. I’m nervous and I want to do a really good job for the university. I want to represent Tech well, and I hope these students connect with me like our ATU students do.”

Gabriele Haulmark, director of the ATU International Education Office, ATU study abroad coordinator and senior instructor of German, explained the new partnership with Landshut University of Applied Sciences is in addition to ATU’s existing partnership with Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) University of Applied Sciences in Giessen, Germany.

“ATU students from the fields of business, engineering, computer science, social work and more are able to study for a semester or two at Landshut University of Applied Sciences,” said Haulmark. “Business and engineering students can also gain valuable international work experience by participating in internship opportunities offered through companies like BMW, Bachner and more. We hope that this is going to be the start of another very active partnership.”
