Arkansas Tech University’s Master of Arts degree in English has been ranked among the top seven master’s degrees in English language learning in the United States.
The rankings, which were performed by College Choice, used readily available data to assess quality, reputation, affordability, value and student satisfaction. Each of those five categories was weighted at 20 percent to determine the top programs in America.
The ATU Master of Arts degree in English requires 30 semester hours. At least 15 of these hours must be completed at the 6000 level. All students are required to pass a comprehensive final examination.
Tech’s M.A. in English is designed to prepare students for doctoral-level study or for careers in post-secondary teaching and to provide secondary teachers with a content-specific program to enhance their credentials. Students who are interested in concentrating their study on the teaching of English as Second Language (TESL) can complete a M.A. in English with a TESL option.
The flexibility of the degree is demonstrated by the fact that it only includes one required course: Introduction to English Graduate Study. Students select the remaining nine courses of their 30-semester hour degree program from a variety of literary, cultural, interdisciplinary, linguistic, creative and rhetorical seminars.
