Arkansas Tech University computing sciences students are working with on-campus and off-campus partners as part of their senior capstone projects during the 2026-27 academic year.
The ATU computing sciences students are engaged with the ATU Office of the President, the ATU Department of Public Safety, the ATU Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, American Legion Post No. 20 in Russellville, the Arkansas Advanced Energy Association, the City of Russellville Department of Sustainability and Resilience, Emerging Hope Therapy and Wellness/The Hope Collective, Hope Resource Center, Main Street Russellville, Project Hope/Saving Grace, River Valley Town Square/Humphrey Funeral Service and Russellville Housing Authority.
Together, they are working to solve problems and pursue opportunities related to issues such as resource navigation website development, educational platforms, public safety inventory management, sustainability tracking and artificial intelligence-assisted exercise training.
“Over the next two semesters, students will collaborate with their partners to research the problem, define requirements, design and develop a solution, test their work and ultimately present a completed system,” said Becky Cunningham, ATU assistant professor of computer and information science and director of the ATU computer science and information technology program. “I’m especially grateful to Dr. Robin Ghosh, who is co-teaching capstone with me, and to Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman and Debra Fithen at ATU Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach for helping connect our students with meaningful community-based projects. We are incredibly grateful to each organization that has invested its time, expertise and trust in our students. These partnerships provide meaningful learning experiences while allowing our students to use their skills in service to others. I’m looking forward to seeing how these projects develop.”
Plans call for at least one of the projects to advance and compete in the 2027 Arkansas Governor’s Cup collegiate business plan contest.
