ATU Anglers to Participate in National Championship

Six Arkansas Tech University students will compete for the 2024 Abu Garcia College Fishing National Championship at Lake Toho (Fla.) on Wednesday, Jan. 10, and Thursday, Jan. 11.

The ATU Fishing Club will be represented by (photographed from left-to-right) Cody McEntire of Walnut Ridge, Kanon Harmon of Haskell, Mat Higby of Lamar, John Foster Case of Clarksville, Michael McCarty of Cabot and Asa Chism of Benton during the event, which is presented by Yeti and hosted by Experience Kissimmee.

The two-person team with the heaviest two-day cumulative weight will win the national title. A total of 138 teams will compete.

According to information provided by Major League Fishing, both members of the winning team and the runners-up at the 2024 Abu Garcia College Fishing National Championship will advance to the 2024 Toyota Series Championship, where they will compete as pros for a top prize of up to $235,000. The winning team’s highest finishing member at the Toyota Series Championship will advance to REDCREST 2025 to compete against the world’s best pros for the sport’s top prize of $300,000.

Both members of the third-place team at the College Fishing National Championship will advance to the 2024 Toyota Series Championship to compete as co-anglers for a shot at winning a $33,500 Phoenix 518 pro with a 115-horsepower Mercury outboard.
