Wonder Boys Top Bulldogs at Baswell Field

Five shutout innings by starting pitcher Zack Kesterson and a big sixth inning made a winner of Arkansas Tech University on Monday during its 2019 home baseball debut.

The Wonder Boys defeated Union University 7-2 at Baswell Field in Russellville.

Kesterson (1-1) limited the Bulldogs to two hits before giving way to relievers Drake Norton, Jake Mattox and Nolan Withrow. They combined to pitch the final four innings for Arkansas Tech.

ATU’s Britt Stroth, Dylan McDearmon and Harry Gard contributed two hits and two runs batted in apiece. Stroth had a two-run single as part of a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Wonder Boys (6-6) are scheduled to play their first home Great American Conference series of the season on Sunday, Feb. 24, and Monday, Feb. 25.

First pitch against Henderson State University is planned for 1 p.m. Sunday and 6 p.m. Monday.
