Tech Tennis Named Favorite to Win GAC

Arkansas Tech University is picked to win the 2016 Great American Conference women’s tennis championship in a preseason poll of league head coaches.

The poll, which was released by the GAC office on Wednesday, Jan. 27, forecasts a tight four-team race for the title.

Arkansas Tech received three first-place votes and 40 points in the preseason poll. Close behind are East Central University (T-2nd, 38 points), Southeastern Oklahoma State University (T-2nd, 38 points) and Oklahoma Baptist University (4th, 37 points).

Southern Nazarene University (5th, 25 points), Harding University (6th, 23 points), Henderson State University (7th, 15 points) and Ouachita Baptist University (8th, 9 points) complete the preseason GAC women’s tennis poll.

Abby Davis is in her 12th season as the Arkansas Tech head tennis coach. She led the Golden Suns to a school-record 18 tennis wins, a share of the GAC regular season championship and a first-round win in the NCAA Division II Tournament during the 2014-15 season.

Arkansas Tech will begin the spring portion of its 2015-16 tennis schedule by hosting Evangel University for a 3 p.m. non-conference match at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, Feb. 5.
