Suns Take Game from #5 SOSU

Arkansas Tech University defeated nationally fifth-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State University 4-3 in 11 innings in game one of a Great American Conference softball series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday afternoon.

Arkansas Tech’s Natalie Magie scored the winning run when she slid into home safely ahead of an attempted force play by the SOSU defense in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Victoria Huie (10-9) pitched all 11 innings for the Golden Suns and held the Savage Storm to three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits. Huie struck out five and walked just one.

Huie, Cassady Haworth and Shanna Davidson had two hits apiece for Arkansas Tech, which recorded its first win over a nationally-ranked softball opponent since April 2011.

Southeastern Oklahoma State (28-7 overall, 13-3 GAC) bounced back to win game two of Friday’s doubleheader 4-3.

Saturday’s doubleheader was rained out.

The Golden Suns (19-16, 12-10) will host the University of Arkansas at Monticello for a four-game GAC softball series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
