Tucker Coliseum was a drama-free zone on a record-breaking Wednesday night.
Arkansas Tech University went on a 28-0 run in the first half and rolled to a 149-44 non-conference home victory over Ecclesia College.
The Golden Suns (1-2) established new school records for points in a game and margin of victory.
“Our players did a good job of being unselfish and making good long passes to each other,” said Dave Wilbers, Arkansas Tech head coach. “They looked for each other in transition. This is a team that works hard in practice and gets better.”
ATU shot 72 percent from the field, 55 percent from 3-point range and out-rebounded the Royals 48-20. The Suns finished with a 64-2 edge in points off turnovers and a 71-0 advantage in fast break points.
Tech’s 28-0 run over a span of 5:35 provided it with a 50-13 lead at the 7:50 mark of the second quarter. The Golden Suns led 71-30 at halftime and 108-34 after three quarters.
Nine ATU players reached double figures in scoring, led by Ashley Breathitt with a career-high 25 points.
Jacie Higgins (23 points), Jayana Sanders (19 points), Alicia Mardis (18 points), Ryann Goodsell (13 points), Hannah Villines (12 points), Kiara Moses (12 points), Leighton Taylor (11 points), Lyrik Williams (10 points) and Ke’Vonshaye Stackhouse (6 points) were the other Golden Suns to appear on Wednesday night.
Saphire Thompson scored a team-high 17 points for the Royals (0-8).
