Art Students Contribute to HLC Self-Study

Three Arkansas Tech University students were rewarded on Tuesday, Dec. 7, for lending their graphic design talents to an important project for Arkansas Tech University.

Junior Vanessa Williams of Lawrence, Kan. (photographed, middle), sophomore Katelyn Ferguson of Alma (photographed, far left) and senior James Ruiz of Los Angeles, Calif. (not photographed) were honored for producing the top three potential cover designs for the Arkansas Tech University self-study for The Higher Learning Commission.

The self-study is part of a process that the university goes through every 10 years in order to maintain its accreditation with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Dr. Micheal Tarver (photographed, far right), dean of the Arkansas Tech College of Arts and Humanities, is serving as the self-study coordinator.

Graphic design students at Arkansas Tech were called on during the fall 2010 semester to produce and submit potential cover designs for the report.

Williams’ design was selected as the top choice and it will serve as the inspiration for the self-study cover. She will receive the first prize of $100.

Ferguson and Ruiz will both receive honorable mention prizes of $50 for their cover designs.
