Art and Architecture Opens Friday at Museum

The Arkansas Tech University Museum will display watercolors and photographs created by Tech students for its 2016 Art and Architecture exhibit from Friday, March 18, through Wednesday, April 27.

A gallery opening and awards presentation will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 18, inside the Arkansas Tech Museum, which is located in the Techionery at 1502 North El Paso Ave. in Russellville.

The painting judged to be best in show will be purchased by the Arkansas Tech Museum for its collection.

Each year, a structure on campus is selected as the focal point of the Art and Architecture exhibit. Tucker Coliseum was chosen for the 2016 show so that the artworks could complement the ongoing museum exhibit concerning the life and times of the building’s namesake, John E. Tucker.

This year marks the eighth annual Art and Architecture exhibit, which is a collaborative effort by the Arkansas Tech Museum and the Arkansas Tech Department of Art. The series was inspired by the 1968 watercolor paintings of six campus facilities by Arkansas Tech student James Gowing for the Arkansas Tech Alumni Association calendar.
