Arkansas Tech to House Students at Vista Place

Arkansas Tech University will lease and operate space at Vista Place Apartments in Russellville to help it meet demand for student housing during the 2011-12 academic year.

Arkansas Tech will house 230 students at Vista Place in time for the beginning of the fall semester on Aug. 24.

The university will rent three buildings and one additional floor in a fourth building at the apartment complex, which is located on East O Street and is less than one mile from the Arkansas Tech campus.

Approximately 150 of the 230 Tech students that will live at Vista Place were originally scheduled to live in Campus Court, a residence hall located on Aspen Lane that has been owned and operated by Arkansas Tech since 2006.

“Campus Court is not an effective student housing operation for Arkansas Tech at this time because of the costs associated with maintaining the facility,” said Marty Sabolo, director of housing and associate dean of students at Arkansas Tech. “It was in our students’ best interest and in the university’s best interest that we pursue a relationship with Vista Place Apartments beginning with the fall 2011 semester.

“The students living at Vista Place will receive the same benefits of living in university housing as any other on-campus student,” continued Sabolo. “These benefits include educational programs and social programs designed to enhance the college experience and the leadership of our trained resident assistants and resident directors.”

Arkansas Tech students living in the university-operated units at Vista Place who drive to campus for class will have access to designated parking areas.
