Arkansas Tech Recognized by Toys for Tots

Arkansas Tech University has earned the Commander’s Award for outstanding achievement from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for its support of the 2011 Toys for Tots campaign.

Larry Mars, Toys for Tots committee chairman for the U.S. Marine Corps League Lake Dardanelle Detachment, presented the award to Arkansas Tech on Monday, Jan. 23.

Kristy Bayer, assistant athletic director at Arkansas Tech, accepted the award on behalf of the university.

Arkansas Tech basketball fans donated approximately 200 new and unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots campaign during a doubleheader at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday, Dec. 10. Officers from the Arkansas Tech Office of Public Safety also collected toys for Toys for Tots throughout the month of December.

Toys for Tots is an annual campaign by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to collect toys for children in need during the holiday season.

Since the program’s inception in 1947, Toys for Tots has distributed more than 400 million toys.
