Arkansas Tech Focuses on Healthy Practices

Arkansas Tech faculty and staff are once again focusing on being healthy by participating in the Blue & You Fitness Challenge.

The challenge, organized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, is designed to encourage employees to improve their health by exercising 30 minutes a day for at least three days a week.

Last year more than 60 employees signed up to participate in the challenge, and Tech organizers say they hope more employees will participate this year.

“Last year was the first year that Arkansas Tech participated in the challenge, and we had great participation,” adds Angie Reynolds, director of Human Resources.  “This year we hope to see even more Tech employees make the commitment to be more health conscious. We all benefit by taking a proactive approach to health, and we believe this program is a great way to get Tech faculty and staff excited about making health a priority.”

Several new features will be in place this year for those participating.  Participants will be able to form teams on the Tech campus to compete for a weekly team trophy.  Additionally, participants will be able to take part in group cardio activities and receive a weekly newsletter with fitness, health and dieting information.

The deadline to register to participate is Sunday, February 28.  Go here to register to participate.

The challenge is set to begin on Monday, March 1, and it will run through Monday, May 31.  Arkansas Tech University will host a kickoff event on Monday, March 1, in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building.
