Arkansas Tech: Best Basketball in NCAA D-II

A review of the NCAA Division II top 25 polls released on Tuesday, Feb. 8, shows that Arkansas Tech University can boast the best overall basketball program in all of NCAA Division II.

The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (18-2 overall, 7-1 Gulf South Conference) maintained their No. 5 national ranking in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II top 25 women’s basketball poll.

The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (17-3, 8-0) moved up one spot to No. 14 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II top 25 men’s basketball poll.

The average of those two rankings places Arkansas Tech as the most highly-regarded overall basketball program in NCAA Division II this week.

Among 275 NCAA Division II members, the only other institutions that are ranked in both men’s and women’s basketball this week are Rollins College of Florida (men 23rd, women 19th) and Grand Valley State of Michigan (men 22nd, women 23rd).

The Golden Suns have won four consecutive games to pull into a tie for first place in the GSC West Division women’s basketball standings.

Arkansas Tech’s women have been ranked in the NCAA Division II top 25 for 24 consecutive weeks, including 20 straight weeks in the top 10.

The Wonder Boys are on an 11-game winning streak. They own sole possession of first place in the GSC West men’s standings.

Arkansas Tech’s men have been included in 21 of the last 26 NCAA Division II top 25 rankings.

Tech was scheduled to host Christian Brothers for a GSC doubleheader on Thursday, Feb. 10, but those games have been postponed until Monday, Feb. 14, because of inclement weather.

The Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys will return to the floor on Saturday, Feb. 12, with a road doubleheader at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Game times are 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men) at Steelman Field House in Monticello.

Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM will broadcast the games.
