Arkansas Tech University’s Julio Arguelles posted his best career finish at the 2016 Argonaut Invitational men’s golf tournament hosted by the University of West Florida on Monday and Tuesday at Tiger Point Golf Club in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Arguelles fired rounds of 69-75-72 to finish with a 54-hole total of even-par 216. He earned a share of seventh place among a field of 85 players.
A junior from Lomas De Cocoyoc, Mexico, Arguelles’ highest individual finish in a collegiate tournament before Tuesday was a share of 11th place at the 2015 Great American Conference Championships.
Arkansas Tech returned team scores of 290-304-303 for a 54-hole total of 897 at the Argonaut Invitational. The Wonder Boys finished eighth among 15 teams.
Bryce Burke (T-26th, 73-79-73-225), Austin Smith (T-28th, 74-76-76-226), Jordan Hawkes (T-55th, 74-74-85-233) and Dylan Lovell (T-67th, 76-82-82-240) also represented Arkansas Tech in the event.
The University of Missouri-St. Louis won the team title with a three-round score of 872. The individual title went to Hugo Bernard of St. Leo University. He completed the tournament at 6-under 210 following rounds of 74-66-70.
The Wonder Boys will return to action April 17-19 at the Natural State Classic in Heber Springs.
