Argos Take Two From Wonder Boys

West Florida swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys at Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola, Fla., on Tuesday.

The Argonauts (20-11) defeated the Wonder Boys 5-1 and 6-4.

West Florida staked starting pitcher Josh Reed to a 4-0 lead after three innings in game one, and the right-handed junior took it from there.

Reed (1-0) limited the Wonder Boys to one run on five hits while striking out six over eight innings.

Nick Makris had two hits for Tech (21-11).

Game two followed a similar script early on. The Argonauts again led 4-0 after three innings, and UWF held a 6-1 lead after six innings.

The Wonder Boys rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh and final inning, but Argo reliever Zach North was able to put the brakes on Tech’s comeback bid for his seventh save of the season.

Clint Stroud had two hits and Colt Loehrs hit a home run and drove in two runs for the Wonder Boys in the game two loss.

West Florida starting pitcher Ty Sullivan (5-1) went five innings to earn the victory.

The Wonder Boys and the Argonauts will play a single game at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
