Local high school students in the service area of Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus recently participated in a five-day program designed to provide them with information about careers in emergency services.
Career fields covered during the Learning for Life Corporation Exploring Program included law enforcement, emergency medical technician (EMT), paramedic and emergency management. Topics ranged from crime scene investigation to critical life saving measures.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for area high school students to discover educational options prior to entering into their college years, thus hopefully lowering the rate of students changing majors once in college,” said Laura Rudolph, director of community outreach at ATU-Ozark.
Those in attendance also learned about academic opportunities in related fields available through the Russellville and Ozark campuses of Arkansas Tech.
The ATU-Ozark Department of Business and Community Outreach partnered with Arkansas Tech faculty members and the WestArk Area Council to make the Exploring program available to area students.
“ATU-Ozark was proud to partner with the WestArk Area Council for this inaugural Explorer post and think it is a valuable tool to gaining interest in high-demand careers,” said Bruce Sikes, chancellor of ATU-Ozark Campus.
