Anstine Named GAC Pitcher of the Week

Arkansas Tech University’s Zak Anstine was named Great American Conference baseball pitcher of the week when the league office announced its weekly awards on Tuesday, April 10.

Anstine, a right-handed junior from Holden, Mo., pitched a complete game to lead the Wonder Boys to a 7-1 victory over the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils on Saturday.

He struck out nine batters and walked just one while allowing one run on two hits over seven innings. Anstine improved to 4-0 on the year with the win.

Arkansas Tech (18-21 overall, 7-8 GAC) will play a three-game league series against Harding University (21-15, 6-9) at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy this weekend.

The Wonder Boys and the Bisons will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday, April 14, and a single contest starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

All three games can be heard on KCAB 980 AM.

Arkansas Tech enters the weekend tied for sixth place in the GAC standings, while Harding is one game back and in sole possession of eighth place in the league standings.

Only the top six teams in the final regular season GAC standings will advance to the inaugural GAC Baseball Tournament May 4-7 in Enid, Okla.
