Alum Uses Tech Experience to Help Others

Arkansas Tech graduate Jeremiah Shinn is relying on his experiences from his time at Arkansas Tech to help students attending Boise State University to connect to the campus.

Shinn was named the director of the Student Involvement and Leadership Center at the university in February.  In his position, he helps students find a community within the campus by helping them to become involved in student organizations and volunteer opportunities.

Shinn attended Arkansas Tech as a first generation college student and says he remembers and understands the emotions students experience when beginning college.

He says he wants to pay forward what he received by helping other students successfully make the transition to college.  He added, “When our work is done intentionally and in concert with the great work of our faculty, I believe that the students we touch are better prepared to create positive change in our world.”

In addition to his duties at Boise State University, Shinn is also currently working to finish his doctorate in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
