Allen Named GSC West Player of the Week

Arkansas Tech guard Renard Allen put the Wonder Boys on his back to earn two tough Gulf South Conference wins last week.

On Wednesday, he was rewarded with GSC West Division player of the week honors.

Allen, a 6-foot-1 senior from New Orleans, La., scored a career-high 28 points in Tech’s 79-69 overtime win at Southern Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 4.

He followed that by scoring all 17 of his points in the second half to lead the Wonder Boys to a 67-65 victory over Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Allen was 11-of-11 from the free throw line against UA-Monticello.

He is the second Wonder Boy to be named GSC West Division player of the week this season. Brandon Friedel earned the award on Dec. 9.

For the season, Allen is averaging 12.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. His .790 free throw percentage this year is tied for fourth-best in the GSC.

The Wonder Boys will visit Henderson State for an 8 p.m. contest at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia on Thursday.

Tech’s men will entertain Harding for a 6 p.m. game at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday.

Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM and www.athletics.atu.edu will have live play-by-play coverage of both games.
