Arkansas Tech University senior Linsey Gjerstad of Branson, Mo., has earned a nationally competitive $15,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholars Program.
Established in 2011, the PCAOB Scholars Program provides financial assistance for select undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities.
Nominees must demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing as well as high ethical standards. They must also have an overall grade point average of 3.3 or higher or be ranked in the top one-third of their overall class.
“I am so honored to receive the $15,000 PCAOB scholarship, which is a truly life-changing opportunity for my family and me,” said Gjerstad. “Balancing full-time classes while running my business is no small task, and this award gives me the financial support to help care for my husband and three spectacular daughters while they support me in going back to school. Being nominated by my professors was deeply humbling, and as I looked into the qualifications, standards and expectations of the scholarship, it confirmed for me that I am right where God wants me to be. It is such an honor and privilege to be the face of the PCAOB program at ATU.”
Gjerstad said she chose Arkansas Tech because of the reputation of its business programs and its support for disabled veterans and their dependents.
“I was initially nervous about returning to college at my age,” said Gjerstad. “From day one, the professors, faculty and students have been remarkably welcoming, helping me feel like I truly belong. An unexpected blessing has been building close, lifelong friendships here…proving that the classic college experience isn’t restricted to 18-to-22-year-olds. I absolutely love being on campus and being part of the ATU community.”
