Haley Lorings grew up hearing about Arkansas Tech University from her father, ATU alumnus Michael Lorings.
“Everything he said about Arkansas Tech really interested me, so when I became a senior in high school, I toured Tech,” said Lorings. “I really enjoyed the campus and thought it was beautiful. I knew it was the place for me.”
Lorings was selected by the ATU Center for Student Engagement and First-Gen Success as the April 2026 Arkansas Tech student leader of the month.
A resident of Little Rock and graduate of Van Buren High School, Lorings is a nursing major with a minor in psychology at Arkansas Tech. She will be a senior during the 2026-27 academic year.
Lorings is a student worker in Ferguson Student Union, which opened on campus in March 2026.
“I want it to be the hang out,” said Lorings when asked about Ferguson Student Union. “I want students to come from all majors and just chill out…before class, after class. My favorite part of the building is the lounge area with the pool table and the ping pong table. I think it’s really nice and open.”
She is also a student coordinator for the ATU new student orientation program.
“I want them to step on campus and feel like they are home,” said Lorings when asked about her role helping orient new students to Arkansas Tech. “I want everyone to be welcoming and to have that sense of community. I want them to find everything they could want in a college experience here.”
Lorings said she defines a leader as a person who can stand in front of a crowd and influence others. She hopes that her senior year will provide her with opportunities to do that.
“A lot of the leadership I have had so far has been behind the scenes, so I want to interact with people and be in front of people,” said Lorings. “I love Arkansas Tech. I truly bleed green and gold. I have become such a lover of this campus and the people here. I hope everyone who comes here in the future enjoys it as much as I do.”
