Charles “Chuck” Gordon did not graduate from Arkansas Tech University, but he adopted it as his own more than a half-century ago.

“(ATU) represents the hometown university,” said Gordon. “It’s my hometown. We came to Russellville in 1973 and it became our home. It’s Mayberry. Russellville went from 9,000 people to 30,000. Tech went from 3,000 students to 10,000. My success in Russellville has mirrored the success of the community and of Arkansas Tech. When you’re in Russellville and this is your home, you root for the home team. I root for Tech athletically and academically.”

Gordon’s loyalty to and affection for Arkansas Tech was recognized when he was inducted into the ATU Hall of Distinction under the Distinguished Service category during spring 2026 commencement at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

Induction into the ATU Hall of Distinction is the highest honor the institution may bestow upon an individual.

A member of the Heritage Society through the ATU Foundation and the Green and Gold support organization for Arkansas Tech intercollegiate athletics, Gordon has spent many a day and evening cheering for the Wonder Boys and the Golden Suns on campus and in athletic venues throughout the region.

To borrow from the words in his ATU Hall of Distinction nomination, Gordon has never hesitated, when necessary, to offer “free guidance and instruction” to those officiating the games.

Gordon has served two terms on the ATU Foundation Board of Directors. Through his service to the Rotary Club of Russellville, Gordon helped create a reciprocal nursing program between Arkansas Tech and Clarke International University in Uganda. The partnership was forged in collaboration with ATU alumna Dr. Rose Clarke Nanyonga, a 2020 ATU Hall of Distinction inductee.

Gordon cited his pride in the ATU robotics team and the ATU nursing program as two examples of Arkansas Tech’s academic quality, and he fondly remembered his friendships with Arkansas Tech and community figures such as A.J. Crabaugh, Marge Crabaugh and Dale Corley.

“I think back to all the names that have been enshrined on buildings (at ATU) that impacted tens of thousands of students over the years,” said Gordon. “As a result, those students earned degrees that put them in jobs that would have otherwise been unattainable.

“From an economic standpoint…there are 10,000 students plus all the faculty and the administration…it’s one of the largest economic drivers in Russellville,” continued Gordon. “It’s an excellent institution academically.”

A past recipient of the Russellville Citizen of the Year award, Gordon is wealth advisor and partner at Four Corners Wealth and operates out of the organization’s Russellville office.

“It’s an absolute surprise because of the names I know that are in the Hall of Distinction,” said Gordon. “What I’ve done for Tech is puny. I cheer at the ballgames. If you asked what is Chuck Gordon known for…well, I encourage good officiating. Sometimes I’m right, but a lot of times I’m probably not. When President (Dr. Russell) Jones called to tell me that I’d been accepted into the Hall of Distinction, I was astonished.”
