ATU Bands to Tell “Stories of America” Thursday

The Arkansas Tech University Symphonic Band and the ATU Concert Band will conclude their 2025-26 academic year performance schedules with a concert entitled “Stories of America” on Thursday, April 23.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street on the ATU campus in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.

The ATU Symphonic Band will perform “National Emblem” by Edwin Eugene Bagley, “American Hymnsong Suite” by Dwayne S. Milburn, “Yearning to Breathe Free” by Michele Fernandez, “Shenandoah” by Omar Thomas and “American Civil War Fantasy” by Jerry H. Bilik. The ensemble will be conducted by Dr. Adam P. Miller, ATU associate director of bands and assistant professor of music.

Comprised primarily of music majors, the ATU Symphonic Band is open to students of all majors by audition. It offers two performances per semester.

The ATU Concert Band will feature student conductors Jesse Wells of Sheridan, Marvin Velazquez of Waldron and Savana Green of Hot Springs during its performance. Pieces on the ATU Concert Band portion of the program include “American Patrol” by Frank Meachem, “Celebration of Taps” by Jerry Brubaker and “Let Freedom Ring” by James Curnow.

A large ensemble dedicated to the non-music major population, the ATU Concert Band performs two concerts per year. It is open to all students in the university without a required audition.
