Dr. Jason Ulsperger, Arkansas Tech University professor of sociology and criminal justice, was recognized as ATU faculty member of the month by ATU Faculty Senate on Tuesday, March 10.
The honor is based upon Ulsperger’s leadership of the Project IMPACT (Interdisciplinary Minds Performing Acts of Community Transformation) program, which is currently focused on its Pathways to Care initiative.
Through Pathways to Care, Project IMPACT invested the fall 2025 semester learning about and assisting individuals and communities affected by trauma and systemic harm. During the spring 2026 semester, the ATU students engaged in Pathways to Care have turned their attention toward issues affecting the elderly in the Arkansas River Valley.
Project IMPACT is carried out under the auspices of the ATU chapters of Alpha Kappa Delta (sociology honor society) and Alpha Phi Sigma (criminal justice honor society). Ulsperger serves as advisor for both organizations.
Ulsperger earned an Associate of Arts degree from Arkansas State University at Beebe. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Arkansas, a Master of Arts degree from Arkansas State University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oklahoma State University.
A member of the ATU faculty since 2006, Ulsperger is a two-time ATU Faculty Award of Excellence winner. He captured that honor in the scholarship category in 2013 and in the teaching category in 2015.
The ATU faculty member of the month program is a new initiative introduced by Dr. Michael Rogers, who is serving as chair of ATU Faculty Senate during the 2025-26 academic year.
Previous winners of the ATU faculty member of the month award were Dr. Jacob Grosskopf, Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, Dr. Cheryl Monfee, Neal Harrington and Dr. Bindu Subhadra.
