Community Health Needs Workshop Set for March 5

ATU Nursing Infant Care
A steady flow of career-ready graduates from the Arkansas Tech University nursing programs is one strength of the health care ecosystem in the Arkansas River Valley.

The Arkansas Tech University Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach will host a community health needs finding workshop from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the ATU ThinkSpace at the Co-Create Innovation Hub in Russellville.

Moderated by ATU faculty members Megan Toland and Dr. Alexis Johnson, the workshop will provide community stakeholders and ATU faculty members with an opportunity to define the state of health care in the Arkansas River Valley relative to strengths, challenges, priority issues and assets.

“The goal of this workshop is not to solve these challenges, but to surface them thoughtfully while also recognizing existing strengths,” said Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, director of the ATU Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach and ATU professor of sociology. “The resulting document will serve as a foundation for faculty and students to explore these topics through coursework, research and workforce development initiatives and applied projects in the coming years. We anticipate revisiting this assessment in approximately two years to reflect on progress and change.”

Toland serves as associate professor of journalism and Johnson is associate professor of communication in the ATU Department of Communication and Media Studies.

The Co-Create Innovation Hub is located at 215 S. Main St. in Russellville. Lunch will be provided for workshop participants.
