Dr. Kae Hashimoto Reed from the Arkansas Tech University Department of English and World Languages and the ATU Department of Music has planned a conversation series entitled “Manga Talk Series with Dr. Hashimoto.”

In the first talk of the series, Hashimoto’s lectures will include “What is Manga?” and “A Thousand Years of Manga History.” The lectures will be delivered at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center room 300A.

Hashimoto will lead a discussion about Japanese culture, history, art, religion and tourism through manga and anime in the series.

“The goals of the events are to increase knowledge of manga and anime watchers while enjoying their favorite stories, to foster grassroots advocacy of Japan in the community and to promote the world language program at ATU,” said Hashimoto.

The event is also associated with the fall 2021 drive-thru dinner series hosted by the ATU Department of Parks, Recreation and Hospitality Administration. A student from Japan will develop the dinner menu of the day on Oct. 21. The dinner pick-up time is between 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21. Meals may be reserved in advance by calling (479) 356-2198 or sending e-mail to smcdowall@atu.edu.
