Lady Tigers Finish Series Sweep of Suns

Arkansas Tech ended its 2012 softball regular season on Sunday with a pair of Great American Conference losses at East Central University.

The Lady Tigers (25-16 overall, 15-11 GAC) defeated the Golden Suns 4-2 and 2-1 to complete a four-game series sweep at Lady Tiger Field in Ada, Okla. East Central defeated Arkansas Tech 6-4 and 7-2 on Saturday.

The Golden Suns finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-29 and a GAC mark of 8-18.

Emily Kennemer led ECU to victory in Sunday’s first game by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in.

Ali Manship (12-8) was the winning pitcher in Sunday’s opener. She allowed two runs on six hits over five and one-third innings. East Central’s Amanda Madden recorded the last five outs for her second save of the season.

Tech’s Rachel Keeton (5-16) suffered the loss in game one Sunday. She surrendered four runs on 12 hits over six innings.

Hayley Hudson and Chandler Touchstone had two hits apiece and Ashton Long drove in both of the Golden Suns’ runs in their game one loss.

Sunday’s second game was controlled by ECU starting pitcher Brianna Nunley (12-7).

She held the Golden Suns to one run on three hits over seven innings.

Peyton Watson and Lacey Williams had one RBI apiece for the Lady Tigers in the nightcap.

Siarra Gomez scored Tech’s lone run in game two when she led off the top of the third inning with a home run to right field. It was her second home run of the season.

Victoria Huie (9-11) was the losing pitcher in the series finale. She tossed a complete game and was charged with two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits.

The Golden Suns will conclude their 2012 season by participating in the Great American Conference Softball Tournament, which will begin on Thursday, April 26, in Bentonville.

Arkansas Tech will be the No. 7 seed. The Golden Suns will face No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State (34-14) in an opening-round game at noon Thursday.
