Several rehabilitation professionals are meeting at Arkansas Tech today to take part in the Rehabilitation Science Advisory Committee.
The advisory committee meets annually to review the progress and curriculum of the Rehabilitation Science program at Arkansas Tech and to suggest ways to improve the program.
Dr. Lyman Harris, professor and program director, says the yearly meeting helps ensure Arkansas Tech faculty are aware of the latest trends in rehabilitation and human services in the state.
Harris adds, “The meeting this year is especially important since the program is in the process of applying for national accreditation by the Council on Rehabilitation Education and having an active advisory committee is one of the criteria to become accredited.”
Members of the advisory committee include current faculty, current students, program graduates, representatives from the state’s graduate level rehabilitation training programs and both local and state agency representatives.
Arkansas Tech was the first university in the state to offer an undergraduate rehabilitation program in the state, and it is currently one of only two such programs in Arkansas.
The rehabilitation program at Arkansas Tech is the only program in the state that has been admitted to membership in the Council on Rehabilitation Education’s Registry of Undergraduate Programs in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies.
