Coliseum Floor Update: Midcourt Logo Painted

The new hardwood floor that will be the site of countless memorable moments for Arkansas Tech University is beginning to take form.

As of Thursday, July 14, the large midcourt Tech logo has been painted on the floor and crews are working to finalize the project.

Thousands of graduates will celebrate their academic achievements and hundreds of basketball and volleyball wins will be earned on the first permanent hardwood floor in the 35-year history of the facility.

Tucker Coliseum opened in January 1976 with a Tartan rubber playing surface. A temporary wood floor was purchased and put into use during the 2000-01 academic year.

Now, Sports Floor Systems of Memphis, Tenn., is installing a new, permanent hardwood court that covers the entire arena floor area at Tucker Coliseum.

The first Arkansas Tech athletic event scheduled for the new floor is a Great American Conference volleyball match between the Golden Suns and Henderson State on Thursday, Sept. 15. First serve will be at 7 p.m.
