Trusty Honored for Work in Music Education

Arkansas Tech University alumnus Joe Trusty, director of bands at Cabot High School, is the 2010-11 National Federation of High Schools Outstanding Music Educator for the state of Arkansas.

Trusty (photographed here with Julia Reynolds, executive secretary for the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association) has served the Cabot School District as a music educator since 1983 and as band director since 1986.

He graduated from Arkansas Tech in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in music education.

The NFHS Outstanding Music Educator award was the second big honor of the 2010-11 school year for Trusty. He was named Arkansas Bandmaster of the Year during a conference in July 2010.

Trusty oversees the marching band, three concert bands and a jazz band at Cabot High School. He also serves as chair of the CHS Music Department. Under Trusty’s direction, enrolllment in the band program for grades 7-12 in the Cabot School District has grown from 300 to 800 students.
