Golden Suns Host Weekend Classic

Arkansas Tech will look to extend its 10-match volleyball winning streak during the Arkansas Tech Hampton Inn Invitational at Tucker Coliseum this weekend.

The Golden Suns (15-3) will begin their portion of the event by hosting Alabama-Huntsville (4-10) at 11 a.m. Friday.

Tech figures to face its sternest challenge of the weekend at 7 p.m. Friday against Central Oklahoma.

The Bronchos (12-4) have won six of their last seven matches and they are undefeated on an opponent’s home floor (5-0) this season.

The Golden Suns will wrap up the Arkansas Tech Hampton Inn Invitational by facing East Central University (2-14) at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Arkansas Tech already owns wins over Alabama-Huntsville and East Central this year. The Suns defeated the UAH Chargers 3-0 in at Spragins Hall in Huntsville on Sept. 17. Tech came from behind to defeat ECU Lady Tigers 3-2 at the Kerr Activities Center in Ada, Okla., on Sept. 6.

The Golden Suns are led offensively by Laura Farney, who has 221 kills this season, and Sarah Von Lienen, who has recorded 214 kills in 2010.

Von Lienen had a career-high 28 kills in Tech’s 3-2 victory over Harding on Tuesday. She leads the team in blocks this season with 48.

Kera Dukic (697 assists), Marcela Mascarenhas (26 service aces) and Brennae Benda (270 digs) are also among the Suns’ statistical leaders.

Admission to the Arkansas Tech Hampton Inn Invitational will be free.
