Lions Defeat Suns 3-1 at GSC Crossover

North Alabama starting pitcher Jennifer Sexton held Arkansas Tech scoreless for the final six innings as the Lions defeated the Golden Suns 3-1 on day one of the Gulf South Conference Softball Crossover on Thursday at Decatur, Ala.

Arkansas Tech (18-17 overall, 8-9 GSC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Roxie Palacios’ RBI single.

North Alabama’s Jennifer Sharp answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to tie the score at 1-1, and Andrea Palmer’s solo home run in the bottom of the third put the Lions in front for good.

Sexton (12-11) only allowed two hits after the first inning, and only one Golden Sun advanced as far as third base in the final four innings.

Emily Barnes gave North Alabama (19-22, 6-9) an insurance run when she led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to left-center field.

In addition to Palacios’ RBI single, Amy Kilpatrick, Dana Stephenson and Kaci Menz had one hit apiece for Arkansas Tech.

The Golden Suns will play twice on Friday at the GSC Crossover. Tech will face West Georgia at noon and West Florida at 2 p.m.
