Trusty Takes First Place in Falconer Classic

Arkansas Tech University’s Jay Trusty fired rounds of 70-69 for a 5-under par total of 139 and the individual title in the 2017 Dave Falconer Classic at Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville on Monday and Tuesday.

Trusty, a redshirt freshman from Danville, earned his first collegiate tournament victory among a field of 93 players. Cameron University’s Daniel Nielsen returned matching scores of 71-71 for sole possession of second place at 2-under 142.

The Wonder Boys finished third in the team standings with scores of 300-290 for a 590 total.

Lindenwood University (1st, 586) and Henderson State University (2nd, 587) were the only squads to finish in front of Arkansas Tech in a 16-team field.

Luke Cornett (T-12th, 76-70-146), Putter Srinoon (T-12th, 72-74-146), Austin Smith (T-21st, 78-70-148), Shawn Tsai (T-26th, 74-76-150) and Ryan Spurlock (T-57th, 80-76-156) contributed to the Wonder Boys’ team score.

In addition to Trusty, other Arkansas Tech golf team members competing in the tournament on an individual basis included Jonathan Echberg (T-12th, 75-71-146), Bryce Burke (T-39th, 78-75-153) and Julio Arguelles (T-39th, 79-74-153).

The Wonder Boys will compete in a tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama March 27-28.
