25 for 25: Golden Suns Extend Streak in Poll

Arkansas Tech marked its 25th consecutive week in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 poll when the Golden Suns were ranked fifth in the poll released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

The Golden Suns (20-2 overall, 9-1 Gulf South Conference) are No. 5 in the national poll for a fourth straight week.

This is the 21st consecutive week that Arkansas Tech has been listed among the top 10 D-II women’s basketball teams in America.

Both Arkansas Tech basketball teams are ranked in their respective NCAA Division II top 25 polls this week (Golden Suns No. 5; Wonder Boys No. 12).

Among the 275 institutions that sponsor NCAA Division II men’s and women’s basketball, the only other schools that are ranked in both polls this week are Rollins College of Florida (Men 18th, Women 23rd) and Tarleton State of Texas (Men 25th, Women 19th).

The Golden Suns will visit Southern Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 17. Tip-off at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center in Magnolia will be at 5:30 p.m.

The game can be heard on KWKK 100.9 FM. Click here to access an Internet stream of the broadcast.

The Golden Suns will return home to host nationally third-ranked Delta State at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Arkansas Tech and Delta State enter this week tied for first place in the GSC West Division women’s basketball standings. The two programs shared the GSC West title last season.

Saturday’s game will mark the final regular season meeting as fellow GSC members between the two winningest programs in NCAA Division II women’s basketball history. Arkansas Tech will move on to the new NCAA Division II Great American Conference next season.

Tickets will be available at the door. Those with a valid Tech identification card will be admitted free.
