Arkansas Tech is one volleyball win away from an undefeated run through the Great American Conference in the league’s inaugural year.
The Golden Suns (31-3 overall, 15-0 GAC) dispatched Southeastern Oklahoma State 25-23, 25-23, 25-12 at Tucker Coliseum on Thursday night to extend their overall winning streak to 14 consecutive matches and their home winning streak to 21 straight matches.
Laura Farney notched 15 kills and 11 digs and Kelly O’Malley recorded 12 kills as Arkansas Tech completed a regular season sweep of the Savage Storm (14-17, 10-5).
Amber Cerrillos made 37 assists and 10 digs for the Golden Suns. Brennae Benda added a team-high 12 digs, Brittany Ryan made five blocks and Thabata Galvao (photographed) made four blocks.
Arkansas Tech held Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Lunden Azuara to 12 kills on 49 attack attempts. Azuara came into the match ranked fourth in NCAA Division II in kills per set.
The Golden Suns had a team hitting percentage of .274 (48 kills, 17 errors, 113 attack attempts). The Savage Storm hit .116 (25 kills, 14 errors, 95 attack attempts).
Arkansas Tech will try to complete an undefeated conference schedule when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State for a 6 p.m. match in the regular season finale at Tucker Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 4. No admission will be charged.
The Golden Suns will honor their five seniors — Benda, Farney, Galvao, O’Malley and Marcela Mascarenhas — during Senior Day ceremonies on Friday night.
