Arkansas Tech earned its 10th consecutive softball victory by defeating the West Georgia Wolves 10-3 on Friday in the first game of day two at the Gulf South Conference Softball Crossover in Decatur, Ala.
Arkansas Tech jumped out to a 5-0 lead over West Georgia in the top of the first inning.
The outburst was highlighted by a two-run home run by Hayley Hudson (photographed). It was the freshman’s team-leading seventh home run of the season.
That early advantage was more than enough run support for Tech starting pitcher Alex Doyle (8-6), who allowed two runs on six hits over four and one-third innings, and reliever Chelsea Evanoff, who surrendered just one run over the final two and two-third innings.
Tiphani Moon helped the Golden Suns maintain a comfortable lead by hitting solo home runs in the fourth and seventh innings. She was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and three runs scored.
Hudson, Amy Kilpatrick and Jessica Fields added two hits apiece. Alicia Zack recorded two RBIs for the Suns.
Nicole Yancey (7-9) started in the circle for West Georgia (17-17, 6-8) and took the loss. She gave up seven runs, six of which were earned, on eight hits in two innings.
