The National Weather Service has notified the public of an enhanced threat of severe weather in western Arkansas during the evening and overnight hours on Monday, March 6.
Strong to severe thunderstorms may impact the Arkansas Tech University campuses in Ozark and Russellville.
In an advisory, the National Weather Service office in Little Rock indicates that the first wave of severe weather will move through the region between 7 p.m. and midnight. The primary threat will be damaging winds. Secondary threats will include tornadoes and large hail.
A second wave of severe weather could impact much of the state in the early morning hours on Tuesday, March 7, with damaging straight-line winds the primary threat.
Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.
In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.
Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
