Battle of the Halls to Promote Tech Spirit

The Arkansas Tech Residence Hall Association has announced information regarding the 2013 Battle of the Halls competition. The annual competition is designed to foster excitement about campus life and Arkansas Tech University.

The week of festivities will begin Friday, April 5 and will run through Thursday, April 11.  The 2013 champion will be announced during closing ceremonies on Thursday, April 11.

Beginning Friday, residence halls will start collecting funds for March of Dimes.  The amount each residence hall collects will be figured into the point totals at the conclusion of the week.  The deadline to contribute to the collection is 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

The opening ceremony is set to take place at 9 p.m. on Sunday in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Lecture Hall.  During the ceremony, participants will learn more about the rules for the week.  Additionally, students living on campus will be able to present their hall crest and offer a music video presentation representing their residence hall.

Clash of the Halls is set for Monday at 4 p.m. at the Intramural Fields.  Students wishing to take part should dress appropriately for wacky and messy games.

The annual quiz bowl competition will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Tomlinson.

On Wednesday, April 10 the various residence halls will compete in Rockem’ Soccer.  Each hall will take part in one game of soccer.

Closing ceremonies are schedule for Thursday, April 11 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Lecture Hall.  During the ceremony, the winners and runners up will be announced.

In addition to receiving points for placing in the various competitions, halls will also have the opportunity to gain spirit points at each event.  Halls may receive 30 spirit points for each event attended.  At the end of the week, the points each residence hall receives will be tallied to select the 2013 Battle of the Halls champion.
