Wonder Boys Finish 2nd at GAC Tournament

Arkansas Tech University earned a runner-up finish in the 2017 Great American Conference Championships for men’s golf, which concluded on Tuesday at Hot Springs Country Club.

The Wonder Boys returned team scores of 288-289-285 for a 54-hole total of 2-under par 862. Henderson State University won the title with a three-day total of 858.

Arkansas Tech’s Austin Smith was the runner-up in the individual standings. He fired rounds of 66-74-71 for a 5-under par total of 211. The individual GAC championship went to Henderson State’s Nick Shapiro, who finished at 7-under 209.

Luke Cornett (3rd, 72-71-70-213), Putter Srinoon (T-7th, 73-71-74-218), Jonathan Echberg (T-9th, 78-74-69-221) and Ryan Spurlock (T-24th, 77-74-76-227) also helped the Wonder Boys to their second-place finish among a field of nine teams.

It is anticipated that Arkansas Tech will receive a bid to the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Region Championships May 8-10 in Axtell, Neb.
