Golden Suns Topple No. 11 Drury in OT

Arkansas Tech University took down nationally 11th-ranked Drury University 77-74 in overtime in non-conference women’s basketball at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Wednesday night.

The Golden Suns (7-1) tied the score at 63-63 and forced overtime on Kelsey McClure’s layup in the final five seconds of regulation.

A 3-point play by Cheyenne North and a made jump shot by Danielle Frachiseur staked Tech to a 73-68 lead with 1:37 left in the extra period. Daejah Bernard pulled the Lady Panthers (8-2) within 73-71 on a 3-pointer at the 1:14 mark of overtime.

That set the stage once more for McClure, and once more she came through in the clutch.

Her running 6-foot jumper in the lane with 38 seconds remaining increased the Golden Suns’ lead to 75-71, and when Tech’s defense made a stop on Drury’s next possession Tech’s sixth consecutive win was in the bag.

The Golden Suns made 2-of-4 free throws over the final 19 seconds and Drury’s Alyssa Owens made a 3-pointer on the final possession of the game to set the final score.

North had 16 points and six rebounds for Tech, while McClure finished with 15 points and six assists. Frachiseur and Calli White contributed 13 points apiece for the Suns.

Bernard led the Lady Panthers with 20 points.

Arkansas Tech’s women will be idle for the holidays until they host Southeastern Oklahoma State University for a 5:30 p.m. Great American Conference game at Tucker Coliseum on Jan. 5.
