Golden Suns Host No. 11 Drury Wednesday

Last season, Arkansas Tech University fell just short of knocking off a nationally-ranked Drury University women’s basketball team on its home floor at Springfield, Mo.

The Golden Suns will get another shot at the Lady Panthers on Wednesday, Dec. 7, and this time it’s at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

Tickets ($5 adults / $3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the door. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge.

About the Golden Suns: Arkansas Tech led 61-54 with 5:18 remaining at Drury on Dec. 15, 2015, but the Lady Panthers went on a 17-1 run during the final five minutes to earn the win. The Golden Suns enter Wednesday’s contest on a five-game winning streak. Junior forward Cheyenne North is the reigning Great American Conference women’s basketball co-player of the week after she averaged 27 points and eight rebounds per game in wins over Oklahoma Baptist University and Southern Nazarene University last week.

About the Lady Panthers: Drury ranks among the NCAA Division II national leaders in field goal percentage (5th, .485) and 3-point field goal percentage (10th, .395). The Lady Panthers’ only loss this season was a 74-59 setback at nationally top-ranked Emporia State University on Nov. 26. Drury has since bounced back with consecutive double-digit Great Lakes Valley Conference wins over the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville University.
