Kevin Solomon, dean of student engagement and interim assistant vice president for enrollment management at Arkansas Tech University, is the winner of the 2023 Bob Cooke Distinguished Service Award from the Southwest Association of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO).

Solomon was recognized for his work to provide training and leadership development opportunities for students and staff, for building the foundation of the living learning community program at ATU and for his role in creating campus housing for ATU Panhellenic members.

“The ATU Department of Residence Life owes much of its success to the dedication of Kevin,” wrote Dr. Delton Gordon, ATU associate dean for residence life, in a letter nominating Solomon for the award. “He’s always had a heart for residence life.”

Solomon began his ATU career working in residence life (2005-11) and campus life (2011-21). He was promoted to dean of student engagement in 2022 and maintains that role in addition to his interim duties in enrollment management.

“Kevin always goes the extra mile,” wrote Gordon. “He has made a lasting impression on our campus and in the SWACUHO region.”

Solomon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Southern Arkansas University and a Master of Science degree in counseling and student personnel services from Oklahoma State University.

He is only the second ATU representative to earn the Bob Cooke Distinguished Service Award, which was established in 1993. The other was Janet Roys, who earned the honor in 2007.
