Power Outage at ATU: September 2, 2021

Several buildings on the Arkansas Tech University campus in Russellville are experiencing a power outage on Thursday, Sept. 2.

Due to the outage, all afternoon classes at ATU in Russellville are canceled. The majority of personnel in affected buildings will transition to remote work for the remainder of the day, but there will be in-person representation in each office in order to provide for student needs.

Evening classes at ATU in Russellville have also been canceled because of the power outage.

Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field is not included in the outage zone, so the 6 p.m. Great American Conference football game between ATU and Southeastern Oklahoma State University will be played as scheduled.

The ATU Division of Student Affairs reports that the Hull Building Student Union has power and air conditioning if students are seeking a place to hang out and charge their mobile devices.

The outage is the result of a failed transformer. It was first reported at 10:40 a.m. Entergy Arkansas is working on a solution.

It is anticipated that power will be fully restored in time for classes and operations on Friday, Sept. 3.

Buildings that are known to be affected include, but may not be limited to: Browning Hall, the Administration Building, Tucker Coliseum, Dr. Robert Charles Brown and Jill Lestage Brown Hall, Dean Hall, Turner Residence Hall, Brown Residence Hall, Paine Residence Hall, Wilson Residence Hall, Tucker Residence Hall, Brown Residence Hall, Caraway Residence Hall, Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center, Witherspoon Hall, the W.O. Young Building, McEver Hall, Rothwell Hall and portions of Corley Hall.

Chambers Cafeteria is operating on generator power and Baswell Techionery is also open for food service.
