Long-time Arkansas Tech University Office of Information Systems staff member Steve Milligan has been promoted to the position of chief information officer and director of information systems at ATU.

Milligan succeeds Ken Wester, who retired as ATU chief information officer and director of information systems on June 30 after 33 years of service to Arkansas Tech.

“I am very appreciative of the opportunity to build upon the solid foundation established by Ken Wester,” said Milligan. “We have a great team of talented individuals, and I look forward to working with them to support the university’s vision and mission.”

Like Wester, Milligan is an alumnus of ATU. Milligan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and a Master of Science degree in information technology from Arkansas Tech.

After beginning his career in computer and internet sales, Milligan was hired at ATU as computer support specialist in 1999. He climbed the ranks in the ATU Office of Information Systems, serving in the roles of systems analyst (2000-05), assistant director (2005-07), assistant director of academic computing and technology (2007-13) and associate director (2013-23). He added the duties of deputy chief information officer in 2020.

According to its web presence, the mission of the ATU Office of Information Systems is to “exemplify a consistent pattern of excellence and professionalism by providing and supporting information technology solutions and services that will facilitate the purpose of the university now and into the future while aligning our endeavors with the objectives and goals of our university partners in support of the success of students, faculty and staff.”
