MAHLE Engine Components USA presented a $5,000 donation to the Arkansas Tech University Foundation on Wednesday, Sept. 6, in support of the ATU Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) registered student organization.
The funds will help ATU SAE members cover travel costs so they can participate in high fuel efficiency vehicle competitions.
Arkansas Tech SAE students earned national acclaim in 2019 when they finished seventh overall in the internal combustion engine division of the Shell Eco-marathon Americas challenge.
The ATU car achieved 993 miles per gallon during the competition, a 368 percent increase over one year earlier.
MAHLE operates a camshaft plant in Russellville that employs approximately 200 individuals. The company has 152 production locations on five continents. According to information provided by Ilir Talabaci, plant manager for the MAHLE location in Russellville, half of all vehicles in the world contain MAHLE components.
