LULAC Recognizes ATU’s Commitment to Diversity

Arkansas Tech University was honored by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 750 in Little Rock with a University Service Award during the organization’s 2019 scholarship gala on Friday, Sept. 13.

According to LULAC Council 750, the award recognizes initiatives developed for the recruitment and retention of Latino students, including partnerships between the university and LULAC to provide scholarship assistance to eligible students.

Ten current ATU students were honored during the gala as 2019 LULAC scholarship recipients. They are:

  • Jackie Delgado
  • Elmer Evangelista
  • Yuselmi Garcia
  • Fabian Martinez
  • Noelia Romero-Lopez
  • Alejandro Sanchez
  • Paul Suaste
  • Cristina Suaste-Garcia

LULAC selected Sanchez as its ATU student of the year.

ATU’s commitment to serving the Hispanic population has earned it the Latino Destination Campus designation from LULAC.

Arkansas Tech and LULAC entered into a memorandum of understanding in October 2016 that provides enhanced educational opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

Applications for the scholarships must be received by March 31 of each year.
