Arkansas Tech University President Dr. Russell Jones announced on Friday, Nov. 21, that Dr. John H. Lewis will be the next vice president for enrollment management at Arkansas Tech.

Lewis has served as vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life at University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College since June 2023. Under his leadership, UA-PTC reported a 7.8 percent enrollment increase for fall 2025 and the campus experienced the largest undergraduate headcount increase of any two-year college in Arkansas this fall.

Lewis’ appointment at Arkansas Tech is effective Jan. 1, 2026.

“Dr. Lewis’ track record of connecting with prospective students inside the state of Arkansas while demonstrating to them the value of higher education is reflective of qualities that will serve him well in his new position at Arkansas Tech University,” said Jones. “In addition, his strong background in financial aid will help us ensure that Arkansas Tech maintains its emphasis on affordability and access. I look forward to Dr. Lewis’ leadership of enrollment management at our university and the opportunities it will create for future ATU students.”

Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife management and ecology from Arkansas State University, a Master of Public Administration degree from Arkansas State, a Graduate Certificate in community college teaching and leadership from the University of Memphis and a Doctor of Education degree in higher and adult education from the University of Memphis.

His professional experiences began by serving as a financial aid counselor at Arkansas State (2000-05). He went on to become director of financial aid at University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (2005-08), University of Tennessee Health Science Center (2008-13) and Christian Brothers University (2013-18).

Lewis joined UA-PTC as dean of admissions and financial aid in July 2018. He remained in that role until his promotion to vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life in June 2023.

In addition to his administrative work, Lewis also has teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member at Christian Brothers University and UA-PTC.

As ATU vice president for enrollment management, Lewis will provide oversight for the university’s operating areas in admissions, recruiting, financial aid and marketing.

“It is both humbling and energizing to be entrusted with this role at Arkansas Tech University,” said Lewis. “What drew me to ATU was its clear commitment to student success and the momentum the university has built in expanding opportunities for students. Enrollment management is about more than numbers…it’s about opening doors, creating pathways and ensuring that every student feels they belong here. ATU has so much to offer, and I look forward to working alongside faculty, staff and community partners to share that story and help more students discover the opportunities waiting for them at this university.”
