Learn About Arkansans Who Played in the World Series

Historian and author Jim Yeager will offer a lecture entitled “Play Ball: The History of Arkansans in the World Series” at Arkansas Tech University on Thursday, Oct. 26.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center room 300B, 305 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.

Yeager is author of “Backroads and Ballplayers: A Collection of Stories about Famous (and Not So Famous) Professional Baseball Players from Rural Arkansas,” “Hard Times and Hardball: A Collection of Stories about the Leagues, Teams and Players from a Time When Baseball Was Arkansas’ Game” and “Western Arkansas League 1924: Minor League Baseball Comes to the Arkansas River Valley.” He also contributes to the Only in Arkansas blog.

Yeager is retired from an education career that spanned more than 40 years and included service as a coach, teacher, guidance counselor and educational technology specialist. He was the first coach during the intercollegiate era of women’s basketball at Arkansas Tech and established the Golden Suns’ winning tradition by guiding them to four consecutive conference championships from 1979-82.
