Arkansas Tech University Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science faculty members Pete Kelly and Dr. Mike Waller met with prospective students, their families and ATU alumni during an appearance at the 2025 Arkansas Strength Expo, which took place at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in late June.

The Arkansas Strength Expo featured competitions and exhibitions in powerlifting, strongman, arm wrestling, CrossFit, cornhole and entertainment wrestling.

“Although there was a large amount of persons from Arkansas, we were able to interact with individuals from around the country, notably Texas and Oklahoma, with some as far away as Pennsylvania,” said Waller. “The experience was entertaining due to the sports competitions taking place while having the chance to make others aware of the health and exercise science program offered at Arkansas Tech University. We were also able to reconnect with ATU alumni, and former students that were happy to see the kinesiology and rehabilitation science department representing ATU.”

Waller explained that the ATU health and exercise science program can lead to career opportunities in fields such as personal fitness training and instruction, exercise physiology and sports sciences, strength and conditioning coaching in high schools, physical therapy and public health. He cited data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the various national organizations representing those disciplines indicating that each of them are anticipated to experience growth in career opportunities over the next decade.
